DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma flags Off special athletes for National C’ship to be held at Chattisgarh

Jammu, 24 July, 2025: A team of special athletes of Special Olympics Bharat JKUT (SOB) was flagged off by Deputy Inspector General of JSK Range Shiv Kumar Sharma,IPS to participate in National Championship of BOCCE- a specially designed game for the persons with Intellectual Disabilities.

This National Championship is being hosted by SPECIAL OLYMPICS BHARAT CHATTISGARH CHAPTER of SPECIAL OLYMPICS BHARAT at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishawa Vidhayalay Bilaspur Chattisgarh to short list the athletes for International Events.

During the interaction-cum-flagging off ceremony, the Chief Guest, DIG Jammu blessed the special athletes with warm wishes to bring honour & laurels to the Jammu Kashmir by winning gold medals to qualify for world special Olympic events to bring more laurels to the great nation Bharat in world games which will be a marvellous celebration for us as already our Indian special athletes have done in Berlin n Itly world games during past which is well appreciated by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh Modi Ji. He deeply appreciate & laud the dedication & passion of Dr Ashwani Jojra,
Founding President & Area Director Special Olympics Bharat JKUT & his team who brought this noble mission of Special Olympics In JKUT & Leh UT in 2007 and provided an opportunity to the persons with Intellectual Disabilities to explore their hidden talent through the medium of sports, who is rendering his services voluntarily & selflessly as I am witnessing since two decades, DIG added.

In his welcome & keynote address, Dr Ashwani Jojra Founding President n Area Director SOB JKUT termed this SOB mission as a boon & blessings for the persons with intellectual disabilities to turn their dreams into realities to lead their lives with honour & dignity enhancing glory in their families under the guidance and guardianship of our national President Dr Malika Nadda Ji & National General Secretary Dr D G Choudhary. I also appeal to whole society to make this SOB mission- a mass movement to reach to the unreached in nook & corner of every village, Dr Jojra urged.

The contingent comprises of AD SoB Mr Sunny Nanda ( Sr Coach), Mr Rashpal (Coach), the special athletes are Raghudeep Singh, Rakesh Kumar Choudhary, Krish Mehra, Anand Bhagat, Sahil Kaith under the skilled n professional administrative guidance of Mr Sahil Badyal Program Manager SOB JKUT.

Besides DIG Jammu,SP Headquarters Jammu Irshad H. Rather,JKPS addressed & graced the send off ceremony , who urged the society to come forward to strengthen this noble cause to restore smiles on the sad faces of Special athletes & their families, care takers, guardians as they are the important part of society and deserve love & care.
DSP DAR Jammu Sheikh Tahir also graced this occasion.

State Taxes Department intensifies GST Compliance Drive across Jammu Division

JAMMU, JULY 23: To curb tax evasion and enforce adherence to GST compliance, State Taxes Department (STD) Jammu and Kashmir has launched a robust inspection drive targeting multiple locations in Jammu Division.

Under the leadership of Commissioner State Taxes, P.K. Bhat, and the supervision of Additional Commissioner Enforcement and Administration Jammu, Namrita Dogra, specialized enforcement teams conducted thorough inspections at various business units across the Division.

The inspections laid focused on detecting malpractices such as Input Tax Credit (ITC) mismatches, fake invoicing, and other compliance violations. These teams, led by State Tax Officers, meticulously verified traders’ records, bill books, physical stock positions, and other documents to ensure compliance with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law.

The inspections utilized advanced AI tools, including Business Intelligence and Fraud Analytics, to identify discrepancies such as invoice trading without supply, fake e-way bills, and fraudulent ITC claims. This proactive approach underscores the department’s commitment to fostering a transparent and equitable tax ecosystem in the Union Territory.

Commissioner P.K. Bhat commended the enforcement teams for their diligence and emphasized the importance of balancing robust enforcement with ease of doing business.“This inspection drive is a proactive step to protect public revenue and ensure fair practices among taxpayers,” he stated. He urged taxpayers to maintain accurate records and comply with GST norms to avoid penalties and legal action.

Additional Commissioner, Namrita Dogra highlighted the scale of the operation, noting, “Thirteen dedicated enforcement teams have been deployed across the division to target dealers engaged in sale suppression and fake invoicing. Our goal is to promote compliance while safeguarding state revenue.”She further appealed to businesses to adopt invoice-based practices and report accurate sales in their GST returns.

CM Omar reviews key hydro power projects, emphasizes timely execution

SRINAGAR, JULY 23: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today conducted a comprehensive review of major hydro and solar power projects across Jammu and Kashmir, with a sharp focus on accelerating execution timelines and resolving bottlenecks.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary Finance Satosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary Power Development Department Rajesh H Prasad, Managing Directors Jammu/Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited and other concerned.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of key power projects including the 1856 MW Sawalkote Hydro Electric Project, 93 MW New Ganderbal HEP, 48 MW Lower Kalnai HEP, and the 5 MW Solar Power Project at Pampore.

The arrears on account of outstanding electricity bills of commercial power consumers was also discussed and the power development department gave details of steps being taken for recovery and expected revenue protection in case of schemes that would be proposed by the department for recovery of arrears.

While reviewing the New Ganderbal and Lower Kalnai hydro projects, both of which have seen prolonged delays due to contractual and financial challenges, the Chief Minister directed the concerned departments to explore viable alternatives to expedite implementation. He emphasized the need for timely decision-making to prevent further cost escalation and energy shortfalls.

The 5 MW Solar Power Project at Pampore, being implemented through SECI, was also reviewed. The Chief Minister instructed for a cost-benefit analysis in light of existing solar tariffs and to put the idle land available at Pampore to productive use for the solar project.

The meeting also deliberated on the Draft Hydro Power Policy 2025, which aims to replace the 2011 policy and open new avenues for private investment through Independent Power Producer (IPP) and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. The policy includes transparent allotment mechanisms, financial incentives, streamlined clearances, and guaranteed power off-take—all designed to making investments in renewable energy more inviting. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reiterated his government’s commitment to sustainable development, clean energy, and inclusive growth.

J&K BJP pays tributes to martyr Kuldeep Verma on death anniversary

JAMMU, 23 July 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today paid rich floral tributes to martyr Kuldeep Verma on his death anniversary at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.

The tribute programme was marked by deep reverence and remembrance for the supreme sacrifice made by Kuldeep Verma who was martyred during the Amarnath Yatra land agitation in Jammu.

Sanjita Dogra described Verma as a symbol of courage and selfless dedication. “His supreme sacrifice continues to inspire the youth of Jammu. It is our duty to uphold his ideals and remain committed to the regional aspirations of our people,” she said.

Yudhvir Sethi emphasized the importance of remembering those who sacrificed for the region. “Kuldeep Verma’s martyrdom is a moral responsibility for us to continue working with the same conviction and vision for Jammu’s development and dignity,” he noted.

Ch. Vikram Randhawa called for honoring such martyrs through public service. “Kuldeep Verma was not just a name, but a movement. His sacrifice must translate into stronger regional unity and commitment,” he added.
