A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police has filed a 790-page chargesheet in the high-profile honeymoon murder case. The case is linked to the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in the northeastern state. The police have charged the victim’s wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, her lover Raj Kushwaha and three others with murder.
The chargesheet was presented in court on Friday evening.
The masterminds behind the murder was found to be Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. Three others – Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Singh Chauhan – have also been named in the chargesheet for their role in the murder.
All five accused have been booked under charges of murder, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy. They are currently lodged in judicial custody.
Police said that a supplementary chargesheet will soon be filed against three more co-accused.
These co-accused include property dealer Silome James, building owner Lokendra Tomar, and security guard Balbir Ahirwar.
All three are accused of destroying and concealing evidence.
Raja Raghuvanshi got married with Sonam Raghuvanshi on May 11 and reached Meghalaya via Guwahati in Assam on May 20 for their honeymoon. It initially seemed that the couple had gone missing during their trek in the East Khashi hill district on May 23 and a rescue operation was launched by the local authorities.
On June 2, semi-decomposed body of Raja Raghuvanshi was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji) of East Khasi Hills district. Sonam, who was initially reported missing in Meghalaya, surfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur where she surrendered and was then arrested.
