Silence then over IIT-IIM, noise now over Law University? Omar Abdullah’s sharp question in Jammu

Amidst the ongoing debate over the demand for a Law University in Jammu, former Chief Minister and National Congress leader Omar Abdullah has posed a question that has stirred political circles.

From Jammu, he put the central and local governments in the dock, asking, “When Jammu was given IIT and IIM, what did Kashmir get? Why wasn’t there a voice for equality?”

Addressing a public gathering, Omar Abdullah clearly stated that decisions on educational institutions should not be based on emotions or politics, but with regional balance and equitable development in mind.

He bluntly stated that demanding institutions in only one region is not a balanced approach but rather deepens regional inequality.

Omar Abdullah emphasized that if Jammu and Kashmir is to progress, both Jammu and Kashmir must be given equal opportunities.

His statement directly revives questions that have been raised for years regarding educational and developmental imbalances.

Political analysts believe that Omar’s statement is not merely a protest against a demand, but a direct attack on policy priorities.

It remains to be seen whether the government will respond to this question with policy, or whether this debate will remain buried in the files like other issues.

It is certain that Omar Abdullah’s statement has once again brought the politics of education and development in Jammu and Kashmir to the center of discussion.
