Over 12.36 Lakh Smart Meters Installed in Jammu and KashmirJNM Journalist Hardeep Jamwal, JammuJammu, February 11 — The Jammu and Kashmir government has informed the Assembly that over 12,36,507 smart meters have been installed in the Union Territory so far under various central schemes. This information was provided in a written reply to a question asked by MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra.According to the government, the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) jointly carried out the installation work. The smart metering project is being implemented under the Ministry of Power’s PMDP (Prime Minister’s Development Package) and RDSS (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme) schemes. RECPDCL has been designated as the project implementing agency.JPDCL has installed 627,492 smart meters in the ten districts of the Jammu division. Apart from this, 1600 smart feeder meters have also been installed on 11 KV feeders, so that the monitoring of the distribution system can be further strengthened.The highest number of 3,04,468 smart meters have been installed in Jammu district. Apart from this, 58,707 meters have been installed in Samba, 57,320 in Udhampur, 22,591 in Doda, 39,237 in Kathua, 8,742 in Kishtwar, 24,902 in Poonch, 24,870 in Ramban, 25,674 in Reasi and 60,981 meters have been installed in Rajouri.Smart metering work is also going on in Kashmir division. 239,147 smart meters have been installed in Srinagar, 87,732 in Baramulla, 77,943 in Anantnag, 50,322 in Pulwama, 37,009 in Budgam, 33,728 in Bandipora, 24,839 in Kupwara, 24,596 in Kulgam, 18,272 in Shopian, and 15,427 in Ganderbal.The government clarified that all smart meters being installed in Jammu and Kashmir conform to the standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), which are uniformly applicable across the country.The government states that smart metering will enable accurate and real-time monitoring of power consumption, bring transparency to the billing system, curb line losses and power theft, and improve revenue collection. This will ensure more reliable and better quality power supply to consumers.
