Iron hand after Holi murder in Uttam Nagar: Bulldozers signal CM Rekha Gupta’s ‘zero tolerance’ on crime

In a strong message that echoes the Delhi Chief Minister’s uncompromising stand and her government’s zero-tolerance policy for such heinous crimes, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday carried out bulldozer action against a property linked to the accused in the brutal murder of 26-year-old Tarun Butolia in the national capital’s Uttam Nagar on Holi, March 4

CM Gupta swiftly took note of the incident and assured strict action, while also strongly condemning the heinous murder of Tarun Butolia. She vowed exemplary action against the accused, saying that such brutality will not be tolerated at any cost.

This incident of the heinous murder of an innocent young man in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, on the sacred festival of Holi is extremely heartbreaking, reprehensible, and shakes the conscience of the entire society. Delhi has a zero-tolerance policy for such heinous criminal and violent incidents. Such brutality will not be tolerated at any cost. Clear and strict instructions have been issued to the administration to immediately arrest all the culprits involved in this crime and ensure the strictest and swiftest action against them as per the law. Strict and exemplary action will be taken in this case, so that no one dares to commit such an inhuman act in the future

She also assured justice and every possible assistance to the Hindu victim’s family.

“In this difficult time, the Delhi government stands with the victim’s family with full empathy, responsibility, and resolve. I will take action to ensure that the family receives every possible assistance and justice. Tarun’s family has lost their young son; their grief cannot be expressed in words. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear this unbearable sorrow.”

Butolia was beaten to death by members of a particular community over a minor dispute arising from an 11-year-old child’s playful act of throwing a water balloon.

While playing Holi on her terrace, the girl accidentally splashed a water balloon on a woman from another community. While the family immediately apologised to the woman, she still called her relatives to the spot, who then thrashed the girl’s family members.

The accused also reportedly called Tarun and informed him that his family was under attack. Hearing this, Tarun rushed to the house where the accused were already waiting.

They brutally assaulted him and allegedly threw a large stone on his chest even after he had collapsed. He was immediately rushed to the hospital by his family members but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment on March 5.

The incident led to communal tensions in the area as anger spread among residents and members of Hindu organisations after Tarun’s death.

On March 6, hundreds of people gathered outside the Uttam Nagar Police Station, demanding strict action against the accused. A car and a motorcycle allegedly belonging to relatives of the accused were also set on fire.

Come Sunday, just three days after the incident, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi arrived with yellow JCB machines and demolished a structure linked to accused Nizamuddin in the Uttam Nagar area of southwest Delhi.
