Jammu. The central government has taken a major step to further modernize NH-44, the major national highway connecting Jammu and Kashmir. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that approximately 771.25 crore rupees will be spent on the development and safety works of this highway in Jammu and Kashmir. The project aims to strengthen road safety, streamline traffic, and provide better facilities to travelers.
Sharing information on the social media platform X on Friday, the Union Minister stated that several important works are being undertaken under this project, which will further strengthen the road infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the government’s goal is to create safe and modern highways to facilitate the movement of passengers and cargo vehicles.
He added that several road safety-related works have already been completed at a cost of 171.25 crore rupees. These works include addressing accident-prone black spots at Sidco Chowk and the Gol Mela-Sangur road. A light vehicle underpass has also been constructed along the service road in the Samba area, providing relief to local traffic.
Under the project, modern wayside facilities are also being developed in areas like Jhajjar Kotli, Qazigund, and Marhama. Rest areas, parking facilities, food courts, and sanitation facilities will be provided for travelers and tourists at these locations. This will significantly facilitate long-distance motorists and travelers.
According to the Union Minister, several locations on the highway have been identified where road accidents frequently occur. Special measures are now being taken to make these areas safe. Efforts will be made to reduce accidents through safer turns, improved road infrastructure, and traffic management.
NH-44 is considered the most important route connecting Jammu with the Kashmir Valley and other parts of the country. A large number of passenger and cargo vehicles travel on this highway daily. In such a situation, after the completion of road improvements, traffic is expected to be safer and smoother than before.
The Union Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is continuously working to strengthen the road network in Jammu and Kashmir. Improved connectivity will not only boost tourism but also provide a new impetus to the economic development of the region.
