BANIHAL, Mar 17: In a significant step towards improving rural connectivity, MLA Banihal, Mr Sajjad Shaheen on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Forwagan–Kaskoot Steel footbridge at Shafa Pani in Banihal constituency. He was accompanied by BDO Banihal Mr Hyder Ali besides officials of RDD and prominent local residents.
The steel footbridge, being constructed by the Rural Development Department (RDD) at an estimated cost of ₹25.22 lakh, will reconnect several villages that have remained cut off since the previous structure was damaged in the devastating floods of 1992.
Official sources said the bridge will benefit about 10000 residents of Forwagan, Kaskoot, Zinhal, Chachal, Harbair, Wanpora ,Railway Colony and Ashar villages, where the route serves as a crucial link for daily movement.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said the project fulfills a long-pending demand of the local population and will significantly ease mobility, especially for students, patients and daily commuters. He added that the bridge will also improve access to the nearby railway station, thereby strengthening connectivity and facilitating socio-economic growth in the area.
Shaheen reiterated his commitment to equitable development of Banihal-Gool constituency, stating that special focus is being laid on upgrading infrastructure in far-flung and underserved areas of the constituency.
He further said that several development works, including road connectivity all unconnected areas, macadamisation of roads, Education and healthcare upgradation, drinking water supply schemes and power infrastructure expansion, sports infrastructure are currently underway in Banihal and adjoining areas.
Locals present on the occasion expressed gratitude to the MLA for addressing their long-standing demand and hoped for timely completion of the project.
