Jammu. The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has taken a significant decision in the interest of sanitation workers, approving an increase in their ex-gratia (ex-gratia) allowance. This decision will benefit all permanent, casual, and contractual sanitation workers employed by the corporation.

According to information, this decision was taken at a review meeting of municipal officials. Sanitation workers’ organizations had long demanded an increase in the financial assistance provided in case of an accident or untoward incident while on duty. The corporation administration accepted the workers’ demand and decided to increase the ex-gratia amount.
According to the corporation, in case of an accident or emergency while on duty, the family of an employee will now receive greater financial assistance than before. Furthermore, this benefit will not be limited to permanent employees; casual and contract employees will also receive equal security cover.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation has also stated that the payment process will be simplified and transparent. According to officials, the process for approving and disbursing ex-gratia payments will be digitalized to ensure timely assistance to affected families and avoid unnecessary official procedures.

Safai Karamchari unions and labor organizations have expressed their appreciation for this decision. They say it will boost workers’ morale and provide them with a strong social security foundation. Sanitation workers working in various wards have also welcomed this move by the municipal administration.

Jammu Municipal Corporation Health Officer Dr. Shahid Hussain said that sanitation workers play a vital role in keeping the city clean and healthy. Ensuring the safety of them and their families is the corporation’s responsibility. He added that the increase in ex-gratia amounts is a mark of respect for the workers’ contributions.

This decision by the Municipal Corporation is being considered an important step towards strengthening the city’s sanitation system and promoting the welfare of sanitation workers.
