JAMMU: The Jammu Police have successfully recovered ₹20 lakh in connection with a case of cheating, criminal intimidation, and snatching, reported on 30th July 2025.
Accordingly a written complaint was submitted at Police Post Manwal by Sarita Kiran,W/o Ravi Kumar, resident of Roop Nagar, Janipur, Jammu. In her complaint, she alleged that she had been deceived by Asif Ali S/o Mohd Akhter, R/o Mansar, along with an unidentified associate.
According to the complainant, the accused approached her with a fabricated story, claiming that his father was suffering from lung cancer and urgently required financial assistance. He further misrepresented that he was in possession of 500 grams of gold, which he intended to sell to arrange funds for treatment.
Moved by the emotional plea, the complainant arranged ₹20 lakh and agreed to meet the accused at Surinsar. However, upon arrival, the accused along with his associate allegedly snatched the bag containing the cash and fled from the scene.
Based on the complaint, FIR No. 97/2025 under Sections 318(4), 307, and 3(5) of the BNS was registered at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli, and the investigation was entrusted to PSI Bhawani Singh, Incharge Police Post Manwal.
Following swift and effective investigation by the Incharge Police Post Manwal, under the close supervision of SHO Jhajjar Kotli, both accused were apprehended—Asif Ali S/o Mohd Akhter, R/o Chani Mansar and Raquib S/o Shafi, R/o Chani Mansar.
