“The doors of dialogue with the people of Pakistan must remain open; we are not Hitler” — Mohan Bhagwat

JNM journalist Hardeep Jamwal, Jammu

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has made an important statement regarding Pakistan, saying that India should take a firm stand against terrorism and injustice, but that channels of dialogue with the common people of Pakistan should not be completely closed. He clarified that the RSS does not have a separate foreign policy towards Pakistan and always supports the policy of the central government.
At a dialogue program organized as part of the RSS centenary celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, Bhagwat said that even today there are a large number of people in Pakistan who believe that the partition of India was a historical mistake. He claimed that many Pakistani journalists and intellectuals appreciate the work of the RSS and oppose the two-nation theory.
Bhagwat said that there is also a section within Pakistan that believes that it would be better for the people of both countries to live together. He stated that even if India completely defeats Pakistan in the future, its people will still have to be treated humanely. Therefore, it is essential to keep some channels of dialogue open.
The RSS chief said, “We do not believe in Hitler’s ideology. Our nature and culture are not of destruction, but of reform and harmony. Injustice and oppression must end, but it is also important to preserve what is good.”
He stressed that Pakistan-sponsored terrorism should be strongly countered, but the possibility of dialogue should not be completely eliminated from diplomatic and humanitarian perspectives.
It is noteworthy that senior RSS official Dattatreya Hosabale also recently stated in an interview that the country’s security and self-respect are paramount, but at the same time, the doors of dialogue should not be closed. He believed that the possibility of dialogue should remain under any circumstances.
This statement by Mohan Bhagwat is being considered significant in the context of India-Pakistan relations and regional peace. However, he also made it clear that the final policy and decisions regarding Pakistan fall within the jurisdiction of the central government and the RSS supports the same.
