Unknown miscreants destroyed years of hard work for an orchardist in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Unidentified individuals caused significant damage to a modern high-density apple orchard in Hatipora village in the district’s Behibagh area by cutting and uprooting approximately 500 trees. Preliminary estimates indicate the orchardist has suffered financial losses of over 2.5 million rupees.

According to reports, the affected orchard belongs to a local farmer who had invested heavily in a modern high-density apple orchard project. This project was developed with the aim of increasing apple production in the area and improving farmers’ incomes. However, this act of unidentified individuals has dealt a significant blow to the farmer’s hopes.

The incident came to light when the orchard owner arrived at his farm and found that a large number of apple trees had been deliberately cut down. The farmer and his family were shocked by this scene. As news of the incident spread, local residents rushed to the scene and strongly condemned the act.
Local orchardists and villagers say this isn’t just a case of harm to one farmer, but a matter of concern for the entire horticulture sector. They have demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and adequate compensation for the affected farmer.
The police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered an FIR against unknown individuals at the Behibagh police station. Officials say that given the seriousness of the incident, an investigation has been initiated and efforts are being made to identify the culprits and bring them to justice soon.
Currently, there is an atmosphere of anger in the entire area over this incident, and the farming community is expecting strict action from the administration.
