ADC Jammu imposes ₹1.54 lakh fine for food safety violations

JAMMU: As part of ongoing efforts to uphold food safety standards and protect public health, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rakesh Kumar, has imposed a penalty of ₹1,54,000 under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006, on multiple businesses in the district.

The fines were levied against manufacturers, distributors and retailers found selling substandard and misbranded food products. The action aims to prevent the sale of unsafe consumables and ensure strict compliance with food safety regulations.

Commercial establishments have been directed to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation in food handling, conduct regular quality checks to prevent contamination and adulteration, ensure accurate labeling and packaging as per FSSAI guidelines, and train staff in safe food handling practices.

The administration has also issued stern warning to businesses, emphasising strict adherence to food safety norms to protect consumers and prevent further legal consequences.
