Army Public School Damana organises informative session on rabies

Jammu: Army Public School Damana organized a highly effective and educative session on ‘Rabies: its Causes and Management’ for the students of Govt Middle School Parwah on 24 January 2025. The session was taken by Mrs Pushpinder Kaur, Principal APS Damana under Vidyanjali- a School Volunteer Programme and Vigyan Setu Foundation which aimed to illuminate community about the Pathogenesis, Transmission and Prophylaxis of Rabies—a virulent zoonotic disease.

The session highlighted various causes, early detection, vaccination and responsible pet care to combat this preventable disease. The facilitator explained that rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system of mammals, including humans. It is primarily transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, typically through bites or scratches by the stray animals. The session underscored the paramount importance of preventive measures and prompt interventions. The attendees were also apprised of the hallmark symptoms in humans such as Hydrophobia, Anxiety, Neurological Agitation juxtaposed with behavioural aberrations observed in rabid animals.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Pushpinder Kaur, Principal APS Damana emphasized on the significance of such sessions in creating a safer and healthier environment for all. She encouraged students to become proactive ambassadors of health awareness within their families and communities. The keen audience i.e. the students of Class V from APS Damana and Govt Middle School Parwah actively participated in the session and asked various doubts and queries about the spread of the disease. Mrs Anurita Koul, Headmistress APS Damana, Ms Preeti Sambyal, Sr CCA Incharge and Mr Nitish Kumar, Computer Lab Technician also attended the session. A dynamic Question-Answer session facilitated clarification of prevalent misconceptions surrounding rabies.

The event was well-received and left a lasting impact on the audience. Mrs Kirti Gupta, Master GMS Parwah appreciated the efforts of the school management for organizing the session on such an important topic. The initiative reflects the school’s commitment to promoting health awareness and empowering its community with critical knowledge for public well-being.
