BSF Jawan Dies in NCB Custody: Claims ‘Two Cardiac Attacks’, Family Alleges BeatingJNM Journalist Hardeep Jamwal, JammuThe death of BSF Jawan Jaswinder Singh, a resident of RS Pura, Jammu, while in Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) custody has sparked outrage across the region. While the NCB has attributed the death to two cardiac events (heart attacks), the deceased’s family has made serious allegations, alleging that Jaswinder Singh was severely beaten while in custody.According to the NCB, Jaswinder Singh was detained in Jammu on March 3 for questioning in a drug trafficking case. On March 12, he was formally arrested in a case of trafficking tramadol and commercial quantities of heroin, after which his detention was repeatedly extended. The agency stated that on March 19, he was taken to Amritsar for further investigation. During interrogation, Jaswinder Singh complained of chest pains, following which he was immediately admitted to the hospital. He suffered two cardiac arrests there and died on the morning of March 20.The NCB maintains that all legal protocols set forth by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Supreme Court are being followed in the case. The post-mortem and investigation are underway in the presence of judicial and executive magistrates. On the other hand, Jaswinder Singh’s family has rejected the agency’s claims, alleging that he was assaulted during custody, which worsened his condition. The family and local residents have protested in Jammu, demanding a fair investigation and strict action against the perpetrators. The deceased’s wife has also appealed for justice. The matter is now gaining momentum, raising questions among the public about the security of the suspect in custody and the functioning of the agencies. Only after the investigation report and post-mortem findings are available will the real cause of death become clear.
