Taking major action in the case of violence that erupted during a student protest in Sopore, North Kashmir, the administration has arrested six accused under the Public Safety Act (PSA). This action was taken to maintain law and order in the area and to crack down on those involved in the violence.

According to reports, on April 14, students began protesting after a student accused a school teacher of physical abuse. The protest quickly turned violent, and some miscreants entered the school premises and vandalized the premises. As the situation escalated, police had to intervene and use mild force to control the situation.
The accused teacher was also arrested. Given the gravity of the situation, the administration decided to temporarily close all educational institutions in the Sopore area as a precautionary measure.

According to police officials, the investigation revealed that some elements incited violence and damaged public property under the guise of protests. In this regard, Umar Akbar Hajjam, Salman Ahmed Shala, Altaf Ahmed Sheikh, Mubashir Ahmed Gilkar, Muzammil Mushtaq Changa, and Majid Firdous Dar have been identified and arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA). All the accused have been lodged in the district jail.

A police spokesperson stated that strict action will continue against those who disrupt law and order. Other suspects will be identified and legal action will be taken against them as well.

The administration has clarified that those who disrupt peace and order in Kashmir will not be spared under any circumstances, and strict action will continue to be taken in such cases.
