Farooq Abdullah appeals to Amit Shah for leniency against youth arrested for protesting against Khamenei

JNM | Journalist Hardeep Jamwal, Jammu

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Monday appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying the government should consider withdrawing police cases against youth who protested against the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Farooq Abdullah said that while it is the government’s responsibility to maintain law and order, it is also important to understand the sentiments that prompted youth to take to the streets. He said that in many places, the youth protested due to an emotional atmosphere, but now, considering their future, the government should act with leniency.

He urged the Union Home Minister and security agencies to review these cases sympathetically. In particular, the students trapped in these cases should be released soon, so that their studies and future are not negatively affected.

Farooq Abdullah said that sensitivity is crucial at this time. If the government adopts a lenient approach, it will reassure families and prevent alienation among the youth.

He said that to maintain social harmony in Jammu and Kashmir, it is essential that the government adopts a sensible and humane approach, so that the future of the youth is secure and peace prevails in society.
