Gurgaon cab driver returns student’s lost MacBook worth Rs 2 lakh, refuses Rs 500 reward: ‘You are like my daughter’

After realizing she left her MacBook in the cab, she called the driver several times, but none of the calls were answered

A Gurgaon college student has gone viral on Reddit after sharing a touching experience about a cab driver who went out of his way to return a lost MacBook worth Rs 2 lakh.

Posting on r/Gurgaon under the title “How I almost lost a 2 lakh laptop in a cab,” the student (@RAOUGRA) recounted how an ordinary Monday turned into a panic-filled scramble. That morning when she hailed a cab to her college campus, she was carrying two bags, one her own, and a laptop sleeve with an Apple laptop belonging to a friend.

The MacBook was borrowed over the weekend and was due to be returned that day. But it wasn’t until she was already at the college canteen that her friend asked about the laptop, triggering the realisation that she left it in the cab.

The student’s Reddit post began with, “I am so, so lucky to be writing this with a smiling face today.”

“My mind almost accepted that it was gone,” the Redditor wrote. Multiple calls to the driver went unanswered. But when the student rushed back to the main gate with a friend, they found the driver there already, laptop bag in hand, talking to the security guards.

The driver explained that he’d left his phone inside the car while coming to the gate to return the bag. The student tried to offer him Rs 500 in gratitude, but he declined. “Despite my repeated requests, he said I was like a kid to him. It truly felt like humanity is still alive. May God always be kind to this cab bhaiya,” the post read.

The story quickly drew hundreds of reactions from Reddit users. “Moments like this restore our faith in humanity,” one person commented. Another recalled a misadventure of their own: “I lost the laptop, filed theft FIR … Later I came to know it was in office. Told the police that I got the laptop but had to struggle really hard to close that FIR.”

Others added humour to the thread. “If I were your friend… I’m never lending you my laptop again,” one user said. Another Redditor shared how they once left a suitcase full of valuables on a bus between Gurgaon and Jaipur, only to get it back after tracking down the driver.
