Police have intensified the investigation into the recent firing incident against National Conference chief and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir. Given the seriousness of the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have formed a seven-member Special Investigation Team. According to police officials, this Special Investigation Team will be headed by a Senior Superintendent of Police-level officer.
Police say the team will thoroughly investigate the entire matter and determine the real reason behind the attack and whether a larger conspiracy was involved.
How the attack occurred
According to reports, Farooq Abdullah was returning from a wedding ceremony at Royal Park in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday night. Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary was also present with him.
It is reported that a man suddenly approached him very close and tried to fire a shot by placing a pistol against his temple. Security personnel and National Security Guard commandos deployed at the scene acted quickly and subdued the attacker. A delay of even a few seconds could have resulted in a major tragedy.
Attack apprehended on the spot
According to police, the attacker has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Purani Mandi. Security personnel apprehended him on the spot and handed him over to the police. He is currently being questioned, and the possibility of a conspiracy is being investigated.
Every aspect will be investigated
Police officials say that the Special Investigation Team will thoroughly investigate every aspect of the attack, including the attacker’s background, his contacts, and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Farooq Abdullah is currently safe, and his security has been further tightened following the incident.
