Jammu Police, South Zone Cracks Job Fraud–Extortion Racket; Rescues 2 Victims, Arrests 5 Accused – Solves 3 Major Theft Cases with Recovery of Gold & Silver Worth ₹30 Lakhs

Jammu Police, South Zone working under the directions of SSP Jammu to curb crime and effectively nip criminal elements in the bud, achieved significant success through a dedicated police team of South Zone Jammu led by SP South, assisted by SDPO City East, SDPO City South, SHO Gandhi Nagar, SHO Bahu Fort, SHO Bagh-e-Bahu, and ICPP Narwal.

In a major breakthrough, the police successfully busted a criminal module involved in luring gullible youth on the pretext of securing jobs abroad, subsequently confining them and extorting money from their families. In this operation, 02 victims were rescued, 05 accused were arrested, and ₹34 lakh was recovered. Additionally, Jammu Police solved 03 important theft cases (02 of Bagh-e-Bahu and 01 of Bahu Fort), leading to the arrest of 03 accused persons and the recovery of stolen property, including 1.2 kg of silver and 17 tolas of gold ornaments, worth approximately ₹30 lakhs.

In a case registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, Jammu (FIR No. 67/2026), a complaint was lodged by Jagmohan Singh regarding the wrongful confinement of his son Maninder Singh and his associate Tushar Chib in Kolkata, where unknown persons were demanding a ransom of ₹35 lakhs. Acting swiftly, Special team is constituted, which proceeded to Kolkata and, through technical surveillance and coordination with local police, traced the accused to a hotel. On 21 March 2026, both victims were safely rescued and five accused were apprehended. Materials used for restraining the victims were also recovered. During investigation, the involvement of two Jammu-based agents surfaced, who had lured the victims on the pretext of arranging work visas abroad. It was revealed that ₹34 lakhs had been paid by the victims’ family, which has been successfully recovered. Further investigation is underway to uncover the full conspiracy.

In separate theft cases registered at Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, Jammu (FIR No. 13/2026 and 14/2026), incidents reported on 14th and 15th February 2026 involved theft of gold and silver ornaments from residential houses. During investigation, police conducted detailed crime scene inspections, analysed CCTV footage, and carried out extensive local enquiries, which led to the identification and arrest of one accused. Upon sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to committing both thefts, and the stolen ornaments were recovered from his possession. A total recovery of gold ornaments worth ₹26.75 lakhs was made out of the total stolen property valued at ₹31 lakhs.

In another theft case registered at Police Post Narwal under Police Station Bahu Fort, Jammu, a complaint regarding theft of gold and silver ornaments from a residential house was received. Acting promptly, police constituted a team and carried out a sustained investigation supported by technical analysis. This led to the identification and arrest of two accused persons. On their disclosure, stolen property including gold earrings and approximately 1.2 kg of silver ornaments was successfully recovered and seized. The investigation was conducted under close supervision, resulting in the successful detection of the case.

Jammu Police, South Zone advises the general public not to fall prey to fraudulent agents offering easy job opportunities abroad without proper verification. Citizens are urged to thoroughly verify the credentials of travel agents and employment offers before making any payments. Additionally, residents are encouraged to install CCTV cameras in and around their homes, maintain proper tenant verification, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Public cooperation remains vital in preventing crime and ensuring community safety.
