People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Friday to pay tribute to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. She stated that it was an honor for her to visit Tehran in person to express her condolences and solidarity.
In a post on the social media platform X, Mehbooba Mufti wrote that it was a matter of pride and honor for her to be present in Tehran to express deep condolences and solidarity following the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. She described Khamenei as a respected leader who raised a strong voice against injustice and fought for the rights of the oppressed.
According to reports, Mehbooba Mufti had received an official invitation from Iranian authorities to attend the mourning ceremony held in Tehran. She was among a select group of invitees from Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from her, several prominent Shia clerics were also invited to the event.
Political leaders, religious representatives, and other dignitaries from various countries participated in the mourning ceremony held in Tehran. The event has drawn significant attention at both regional and international levels.
Mehbooba Mufti joined the ceremony alongside other invited delegates and mourners, conveying her condolences to the Iranian leadership and the people. Her visit and statement have sparked discussions within political circles.
