In a decisive move to curb the illegal sale and use of banned nylon thread (commonly known as Gattu), Police Station Pacca Danga conducted naka checking and apprehended one person in possession of the prohibited material nylon thread (gattu).
During the operation, two individuals travelling in a vehicle bearing registration No. JK0CT-5553 were intercepted. One suspect, identified as Mahesh Kumar, resident of Janipur Colony (father’s name unknown), fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle. The co-passenger, Varun Raina, S/o Ashok Raina, R/o H. No. 11, Karan Nagar, Jammu, was arrested on the spot.A total of 120 rolls of banned nylon thread were recovered from the vehicle.
The case has been registered under FIR No. 89/2025 U/S 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 at Police Station Pacca Danga.
Jammu Police have reiterated that nylon thread (Gattu) is a dangerous, non-biodegradable material that poses grave risks — it can cause severe or fatal injuries to motorcyclists and pedestrians, kill birds by entangling or slashing their wings and necks, and cause environmental damage by clogging drains and polluting water bodies. Its use is strictly prohibited by law and violates orders issued by the District Magistrate.
Jammu Police have urged the public to refrain from selling, purchasing, or using such hazardous material. They have warned that strict legal action will be taken against all violators as part of their zero-tolerance policy aimed at protecting human life, bird life, and the environment .
