Bootlegger arrested with huge quantity of Illicit Liquor from Bishnah area

JAMMU: Intensifying its drive against the sale of illicit liquor launched on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Jammu Police have arrested bootlegger with huge quantity of illicit liquor in the Jurisdiction of Police Station Bishnah.

Police Party of PS Bishnah led by SHO Bishnah under the supervision of SDPO R S Pura and SP headquarters apprehended one person namely Deepak Singh S/O Garh Singh R/O Sarore Bishna Jammu and recovered 330 bottles of Jk Desi Whisky (180 ml each) and 24 bottles of Beer (500 ml each) from his possession.

In this connection,case FIR No. 191/2024 pursuant to section 48(a) of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Bishnah and investigation of case is ongoing.

General public has hugely applauded the efforts iof Jammu Police in Bishnah area against the firm action against sale illicit liquor in the area.

It is pertinent to mention here that it is the 5th FIR registered against bootleggers in Police Station Bishnah within weeks time only.

Bootlegger held with 10 liters of illicit liquor in Bishnah

Bishnah: In a concerted effort to combat illegal activities, Police Station Bishnah have apprehended a bootlegger and seized 10 litres of illicit liquor from ward no 13 Bishnah area.

A specific information was received that one suspected lady illegally selling illicit liquor among the youth of the Bishnah, on this information a team was constituted led by SHO PS Bishnah under the supervision of senior officers rushed the spot and raided the suspected location. During the search, the team was able to recover 10 litres of illicit liquo and apprehended the accused lady on spot who disclosed her identification as Darshna Devi W/o Kuldeep Raj R/o Bishnah.

Subsequently, a case FIR No. 190/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bishnah. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain further details and trace any possible connections to a larger network involved in the illegal trade.

NEW DELHI : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met President Droupadi Murmu today at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President of India’s official X account shared a post informing about the meeting between the two leaders

“Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Omar Abdullah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” shared the official account of the President of India.

This visit marks a significant step in Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s official engagements since taking office as the Chief Minister of the Jammu and Kashmir Government last month.

In recent weeks, he has held discussions with top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of Roads, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Yesterday, he also met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to meet Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tomorrow. Also, on November 12, Chief Minister Abdullah attended the Conference of Power Ministers of States and UTs, chaired by Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal Khattar, where he voiced Jammu and Kashmir’s priorities and challenges in the energy sector.

JAMMU: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, visited Khelo India Soft Tennis (ST) Centre, M A Stadium, and had an interactive session with the promising soft tennis players there.


The Minister also congratulated the players, Sidhani Singh, Soham Bhat and Shrimai Bhat, who recently participated in the Junior Soft Tennis World Championship held at Jingshang, China. He appreciated the players for their excellent performance in the International tournament and assured that this promising sports will be supported in all respects. He also commended the dedication of International coach and mentor, Indu Bhushan, who in a very short span of time has prepared the players of high caliber.


Satish Sharma, while elaborating various initiatives aiming sports promotion in J&K, said that the Omar Abdullah led government is keenly exploring all possibilities to encourage the talented athletes in the potential sports. He affirmed that the competent players would be provided all requisite facilities and platform enabling them to exhibit their exceptional sporting talent at national and international events.


Indu Bhushan also apprised the Minister of scope and potential of Soft Tennis game which is popularizing among the sports lovers very fast. He informed that launched in 2004 in India, the game has gained huge momentum in almost every state and UT of the nation. This unique game, similar to Lawn Tennis, is being played in the Asian games where India has won medals as well. Also, the process for inclusion of Soft Tennis in the Olympics is also being done by the ST Federation of India.


The players requested the Minister to intervene in the matter of including Soft Tennis among the sports disciplines in the job SRO, besides establishment of Soft Tennis Courts in the state land available at Bhagwati Nagar.

This initiative, conducted under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) 2024-25, will take the farmers to the Centre of Excellence in Zawoora, Srinagar, which is recognized as a premier horticultural training and research institution in the area. The flag-off event, held at Dakbanglow Baramulla, underscored the importance of offering farmers practical exposure to contemporary horticultural methods and innovations.


Throughout the tour, participants will engage in hands-on training and gain insights into advanced farming techniques, crop management, and sustainable horticultural practices at the Centre of Excellence, renowned for its groundbreaking contributions to horticulture. During the event, the District Commissioner emphasized that the one-day visit to the Centre of Excellence at Zawoora represents a significant opportunity for our progressive farmers to familiarize themselves with the latest developments in horticulture.


Providing farmers with state-of-the-art knowledge and skills is essential for improving productivity, ensuring sustainable practices, and ultimately enhancing the agricultural landscape in Baramulla. BARAMULLA : In a bid to evaluate the services extended to the agricultural community, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, along with Additional District Development Commissioner Syed Qamar Sajad, carried out a comprehensive assessment of various Kissan Khidmat Ghars within the district.

These agricultural service centers are established to meet the varied requirements of local farmers, providing essential resources and support services that promote sustainable farming practices and enhance agricultural productivity.


During the inspections, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the array of services available, which include access to high-quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, machinery, and other agricultural necessities.


Each Kissan Khidmat Ghar is designed to function as a centralized resource hub, facilitating farmers’ access to vital materials and services in a single location.


Minga Sherpa also engaged with both the staff and visiting farmers, collecting feedback on the centers’ effectiveness in addressing the challenges encountered by the local agricultural sector.


He emphasized the importance of timely and efficient service delivery, underscoring the centers’ role in empowering farmers by improving resource accessibility and keeping them informed about new initiatives and support programs.
