Srinagar: A terror associate was arrested by the security forces in J&K’s Baramulla district while a terrorist hideout was busted in the Shopian district on Sunday.
ANANTNAG: In a significant step towards combating drug abuse, Police in Anantnag have attached properties worth ₹1.5 crore under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of ongoing campaign against drug peddlers.
In a major action, Police Station Mattan attached a single-storied residential house valued at ₹80 lakh, belonging to Afroz Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Hassan, resident of Azam Khan Mohalla, Khreibal. Bhat, a habitual offender involved in multiple NDPS cases for his role in the illegal narcotics trade.
Similarly, Police Station Srigufwara attached three commercial shops valued at ₹70 lakh, owned by Peer Asif Ahmad Shah and Peer Towseef Ahmad Shah, sons of Abdul Rashid Shah, residents of K Kalan, Srigufwara. Both the accused persons are under investigation for their involvement in several NDPS cases.
These actions highlight Police’s unwavering commitment in eradicating the drug menace and dismantling the networks that perpetuate addiction. The use of provisions under the NDPS Act to seize properties linked to criminal activities serves as a strong deterrent to those engaged in the illegal drug trade. REASI : As a part of the 71st All India Cooperative Week celebration, a grand and impressive block level function was organized by Cooperative Department in Block Pouni under the theme “The Role of Cooperatives in fostering Entrepreneurship, Employment and Skill Development.”
The function was presided over by Bhawani Atri as Chief Guest and attended by Jai Singh Chairman Pouni Bharakh CMS; Robin Banathia Manager Pouni Bharakh CMS; Babu Ram Ex Panch and Ex. Sarpanch Parkash Singh, Sanjay Kumar, PACS members and the general public participated in the event.

The Deputy Registrar Cooperative Department explained initiatives like Computerization of PACS, PACS to function as CSCs, besides mandating the PACS to function as Jan Aushadhi Kendra, open Food processing units, Petrol Pumps and Gas distribution agencies and be part of the world largest grain storage plan etc.
RAMBAN: The Department of Cooperatives, District Ramban, has intensified celebrations of the 71st All India Cooperative Week 2024 “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation) under the theme Role of Cooperative in Building Viksit Bharat.
Started on November 14, the week-long celebrations will continue till to November 20, 2024, highlighting the pivotal role of cooperative societies in fostering socio-economic development and promoting inclusive growth in the region.
As part of the celebrations, the main event was organized today at conference hall District Administrative Complex Ramban, presided over by Additional District Development Commissioner, Roshan Lal. The event witnessed the participation of stakeholders and members of various cooperative societies, besides government functionaries, including Chief Planning Officer, Dr. Shakeeb Ahmed Rather, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, DSHO , ARCS and other officers,.
In his address, ADDC Roshan Lal lauded the efforts of cooperative societies in driving economic growth and promoting social cohesion. He emphasized the need for further strengthening cooperative institutions to expand their outreach and enable them to address the needs of the rural and underprivileged communities effectively.
Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies Nishtha Nayyar, gave an insightful presentation on the functioning, achievements and impact of the Cooperative Department in the district. The presentation highlighted the department’s initiatives in empowering local communities, fostering self-reliance, and enhancing the livelihoods of people through cooperative efforts.
She also spoke about the importance of adopting innovative approaches within cooperative societies to meet contemporary challenges. She also highlighted the role of cooperatives in contributing to key sectors such as agriculture, health, and education.
The Cooperative Week celebrations in Ramban will include a series of activities such as awareness camps, workshops, interactive sessions, and exhibitions to showcase success stories and potential of cooperative societies.
The event also witnessed felicitation of members of different cooperative societies and students of Cooperative School, Banihal for their outstanding performances in their respective fields.
DODA: To pay homage to the victims of a tragic bus accident that occurred on November 15, 2023 at Trungal Morh, Assar, a solemn candlelight march was organized under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashok Kumar. The devastating accident claimed the lives of 38 passengers, leaving the community in profound grief.
The march began from the Tehsil Office, Assar, and concluded at the SDM office on November 15, 2024. Residents from across the region participated, expressing solidarity with the bereaved families and offering prayers for the departed souls.

REASI : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan on Saturday convened a significant meeting with adventure tour operators and officials from the Tourism Department to discuss the promotion of adventure tourism in the district.
The meeting focused on harnessing the potential of Baradari for rafting activities, along with strategies to position Reasi as a hub for spiritual tourism, camping, and weddings destinations in Katra.
Discussions revolved around promoting the district’s natural and cultural assets while ensuring safe and sustainable practices for adventure tourism.
The DC Reasi directed adventure tour operators to regulate rafting activities meticulously and adhere to all prescribed safety protocols to ensure a secure experience for tourists.
Emphasizing the importance of safety, he instructed stakeholders to collaborate with the Tourism Department to draft comprehensive Do’s and Don’ts for rafting activities.
Furthermore, the identification and promotion of homestays at key tourist destinations, such as Ransoo and Ramkund, were highlighted as essential steps to enhance visitors’ experiences and boost local livelihoods.
The Deputy Commissioner also called for the integrated promotion of spiritual tourism and the development of camping sites across the district. Stressing the need for diversification, he encouraged efforts to position Katra as an emerging wedding destination, capitalizing on its serene and scenic environment.

JAMMU: Intensifying its drive against the sale of illicit liquor launched on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Jammu Police have arrested bootlegger with huge quantity of illicit liquor in the Jurisdiction of Police Station Bishnah.
Police Party of PS Bishnah led by SHO Bishnah under the supervision of SDPO R S Pura and SP headquarters apprehended one person namely Deepak Singh S/O Garh Singh R/O Sarore Bishna Jammu and recovered 330 bottles of Jk Desi Whisky (180 ml each) and 24 bottles of Beer (500 ml each) from his possession.
In this connection,case FIR No. 191/2024 pursuant to section 48(a) of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Bishnah and investigation of case is ongoing.
General public has hugely applauded the efforts iof Jammu Police in Bishnah area against the firm action against sale illicit liquor in the area.
It is pertinent to mention here that it is the 5th FIR registered against bootleggers in Police Station Bishnah within weeks time only.
Bishnah: In a concerted effort to combat illegal activities, Police Station Bishnah have apprehended a bootlegger and seized 10 litres of illicit liquor from ward no 13 Bishnah area.
A specific information was received that one suspected lady illegally selling illicit liquor among the youth of the Bishnah, on this information a team was constituted led by SHO PS Bishnah under the supervision of senior officers rushed the spot and raided the suspected location. During the search, the team was able to recover 10 litres of illicit liquo and apprehended the accused lady on spot who disclosed her identification as Darshna Devi W/o Kuldeep Raj R/o Bishnah.
Subsequently, a case FIR No. 190/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bishnah. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain further details and trace any possible connections to a larger network involved in the illegal trade.
