MLA Sajjad Shaheen Thanks Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister;
Jammu, April 1: In a landmark development for the people of District Ramban, particularly the Banihal-Gool constituency, the Private Member’s Bill titled “Establishment of University Campus at Banihal Bill”, moved by MLA Banihal Mr. Sajjad Shaheen, was successfully passed in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly today.
Terming it a historic milestone, Mr. Shaheen stated that the passage of this Bill marks the beginning of a new era in the educational and socio-economic landscape of Banihal. He noted that for decades, students from the region have faced immense hardships due to limited access to higher education facilities.
“Nearly 90 percent of our students, after completing graduation, are unable to pursue higher studies due to poor socio-economic conditions, lack of resources, and absence of nearby institutions. This University Campus will open new avenues of learning, opportunity, and empowerment for our youth,” he said.
Mr. Shaheen extended his heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah for his support and vision in addressing this long-pending demand of the people. He also expressed sincere thanks to Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education Ms. Sakina Itoo for her cooperation and positive consideration of the proposal.
He further acknowledged the support of all Hon’ble Cabinet Ministers and fellow Members of the Legislative Assembly for unanimously backing this important Bill.
“This is not just a legislative success, but a collective victory for the people of Ramban district. It reflects our shared commitment to uplift backward and underserved regions through education and development,” he added.
Mr. Shaheen congratulated the people of Ramban, especially the residents of Banihal-Gool constituency, on this achievement and reaffirmed his commitment to ensure the early implementation of the project on the ground.
The establishment of a University Campus at Banihal is expected to significantly enhance access to higher education, reduce dropout rates, and create new opportunities for the youth, thereby transforming the region into an emerging educational hub.
