State Taxes Department intensifies GST Compliance Drive across Jammu Division

JAMMU, JULY 23: To curb tax evasion and enforce adherence to GST compliance, State Taxes Department (STD) Jammu and Kashmir has launched a robust inspection drive targeting multiple locations in Jammu Division.

Under the leadership of Commissioner State Taxes, P.K. Bhat, and the supervision of Additional Commissioner Enforcement and Administration Jammu, Namrita Dogra, specialized enforcement teams conducted thorough inspections at various business units across the Division.

The inspections laid focused on detecting malpractices such as Input Tax Credit (ITC) mismatches, fake invoicing, and other compliance violations. These teams, led by State Tax Officers, meticulously verified traders’ records, bill books, physical stock positions, and other documents to ensure compliance with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law.

The inspections utilized advanced AI tools, including Business Intelligence and Fraud Analytics, to identify discrepancies such as invoice trading without supply, fake e-way bills, and fraudulent ITC claims. This proactive approach underscores the department’s commitment to fostering a transparent and equitable tax ecosystem in the Union Territory.

Commissioner P.K. Bhat commended the enforcement teams for their diligence and emphasized the importance of balancing robust enforcement with ease of doing business.“This inspection drive is a proactive step to protect public revenue and ensure fair practices among taxpayers,” he stated. He urged taxpayers to maintain accurate records and comply with GST norms to avoid penalties and legal action.

Additional Commissioner, Namrita Dogra highlighted the scale of the operation, noting, “Thirteen dedicated enforcement teams have been deployed across the division to target dealers engaged in sale suppression and fake invoicing. Our goal is to promote compliance while safeguarding state revenue.”She further appealed to businesses to adopt invoice-based practices and report accurate sales in their GST returns.
