Shri Shankaracharya Temple Construction Also Gains Momentum
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has also accelerated the construction of the Shri Shankaracharya Temple in the Shrine area. This project is considered a significant step towards realizing a nearly six-decade-old proposal. The concept was formulated in 1967, but work could not proceed due to various reasons.
The temple construction will cost an estimated ₹31.51 crore. According to officials, the target is to complete the construction by the end of this year. The construction of the temple will not only boost religious tourism but is also expected to enhance the local economy and employment opportunities.
The helicopter service and plans for the new temple are expected to provide a boost to tourism activities in the Katra and Reasi areas. The administration claims that after the completion of these projects, devotees will have a more convenient and safe travel experience.

Devotees will now be able to visit the Shivkhodi cave in less time. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced that efforts are underway to start helicopter service from Katra to Shivkhodi within the next three months.The Lieutenant Governor stated that construction of helipads at both Katra and Shivkhodi is in its final stages. 69 RCC graphs are constructing the approach road and bridge from the helipad to the cave, costing approximately ₹6 crore. Once the service begins, devotees will be able to reach Shivkhodi from Katra in just 20 minutes, compared to the two-and-a-half to three-hour journey by road.Helicopter service has already been operated from Katra to Shivkhodi. At that time, the fare per passenger was approximately ₹8,500. It is estimated that the fare for the new service could be between ₹8,000 and ₹10,000. This will provide special convenience to the elderly, disabled, and time-constrained devotees.
