Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced the reopening of 14 major tourist destinations that were closed after a detailed review by security agencies. The administration stated that this decision was made after the situation returned to normal and security arrangements were strengthened.Many tourist destinations were closed as a precautionary measure following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including 25 tourists and a local horseman. Following the incident, security was tightened across the region, and the situation was continuously reviewed.The reopened destinations include 11 major tourist destinations in the Kashmir division and three in the Jammu division. The administration clarified that areas still covered in snow will be reopened in a phased manner once the snow melts.This decision has brought joy to hoteliers, taxi drivers, tourist guides, horse operators, and local businessmen. Thousands of families were facing financial hardship due to the prolonged halt in tourism activities. It is now hoped that increased tourist numbers will revive vibrant markets, expand employment opportunities, and boost the state’s economy.The administration has also stated that strict security arrangements have been made at all tourist destinations and vigilance will continue in the coming days to maintain normalcy.
