The administration has taken major action against the long-standing illegal mining in the Nikki Tawi area of Badyal Brahmana village in RS Pura, a border region of Jammu, seizing several machines and vehicles. This action, led by SDM RS Pura Anuradha Thakur, has created a stir in the area, and the functioning of the mining department and police has also come under scrutiny.
According to local residents, illegal mining had been going on day and night in the Nikki Tawi area for a long time. Minerals were continuously being extracted from the river using heavy machinery and tractor-trolleys, causing significant environmental damage. Residents say that despite repeated complaints, the relevant departments took no effective action.
Following the complaints, the administration took a tough stand and conducted a surprise inspection. The SDM herself arrived at the scene and seized the machines and vehicles used in the illegal mining. Following this action by the administration, the mining mafia was in a state of panic.
Local residents welcomed the action, stating that natural resources had been openly plundered for a long time, but the responsible departments had remained silent. They alleged that this illegal trade continued due to collusion between the mining mafia and some officials.
The villagers demanded a high-level investigation into the entire matter, strict action against the culprits, and a permanent ban on illegal mining through regular monitoring and joint operations in border areas.
