MLA Lays Foundation Stone for School Infrastructure in Shagan; Holds Janta Darbar
Banihal, June 15: National Conference leader and Banihal MLA, Sajjad Shaheen, today laid the foundation stone for the construction and upgrading of school infrastructure in Shagan and later held a public meeting and Janta Darbar, reiterating the commitment of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government to strengthen education, infrastructure, and public well-being in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the people, Sajjad Shaheen said that the current government has ushered in a new era of development and responsible governance, where people’s expectations are being translated into concrete results on the ground. He said that after years of neglect and administrative lethargy, development work is once again gaining momentum under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He said that education is one of the most important priorities of the government, and the foundation stone laid today reflects a larger vision to provide quality educational facilities to students living in remote and rural areas. He said, “If the vision is for generations, then investing in education becomes the most important responsibility of any government.”
The MLA highlighted various development projects being undertaken in the Banihal constituency, including strengthening road connectivity, expanding power infrastructure, improving healthcare facilities, implementing drinking water schemes, enhancing the beauty of major cities, and completing hydroelectric and other public utility projects. He said that every sector is receiving renewed attention under the current government.
During the Janta Darbar, the MLA listened attentively to the complaints and demands of the local people. The people raised several issues, including the construction of the Shagan-Lotser Road and Kundan-Batibas Road, the improvement and upgrade of electricity distribution lines, and the opening of a dispensary in the village to provide basic healthcare facilities to the locals. Responding to the demands, Sajjad Shaheen assured the people that all genuine issues raised during the discussion would be taken up with the relevant departments and gradually resolved based on technical feasibility and resource availability.
As immediate measures to improve facilities for students, the MLA announced the construction of separate bathroom complexes for boys and girls in the school, as well as the installation of RO-based drinking water coolers to ensure clean drinking water for the students.
He emphasized that constant dialogue with the people is central to his public service and development agenda, and said that governance is meaningful only when it remains connected to the expectations and concerns of the common people.
The programme was attended by Executive Engineers of PMGSY and R&B, officers from Education Department, PHE, besides party officials, prominent citizens, youth and a large number of people who praised the efforts of the government to accelerate development and improve public infrastructure across the constituency.
