Former DSP Devinder Singh has suffered a major setback in the highly publicized NIA terror conspiracy case in Jammu. The NIA Special Court has rejected his bail plea. The court clearly stated that if the accused is released, he could influence witnesses and obstruct the judicial process.

This case dates back to 2020, when Devinder Singh was arrested along with three others during a checkpoint on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on January 11. They were accompanied by alleged Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists. During a search, a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from a car.

According to the prosecution, Devinder Singh conspired with co-accused and provided assistance to them in the terror conspiracy. Charges have been framed against him under serious sections of the Indian Penal Code, UAPA, the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

Meanwhile, the defense argued in court that Devinder Singh had been falsely implicated. They stated that he had been involved in anti-terrorism operations for years and had participated in approximately 200 operations. They also stated that he was shot during an operation in 1998, leaving him disabled.
The NIA strongly opposed bail, telling the court that several of his bail applications had previously been rejected by the trial court and the High Court. The court also noted that 23 witnesses had been examined so far and the trial was ongoing.
Considering all the facts and circumstances, the court refused bail, stating that releasing the accused at this time would not be in the interest of justice.
