The ongoing campaign against drugs in Jammu and Kashmir has seen significant action in 2026. So far, 542 NDPS cases have been registered, with 716 arrests. Approximately 640 kg of narcotics have been seized, valued at approximately ₹18.49 crore.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, speaking at the 17th meeting of the Narco Coordination Center, stated that a strong rehabilitation system, along with strict laws, is essential for effective drug control. He emphasized the need to further strengthen the legal process and address loopholes in NDPS cases.

The meeting directed that the entire network involved in drug trafficking cases be thoroughly investigated and bail orders be challenged. Additionally, strict action was called for against those involved in illegal activities, including cancellation of driving licenses, passports, and vehicle registrations, and scrutiny of bank accounts.

In order to strengthen the legal process, instructions were also given to record witness statements through video conferencing and analyze the reasons for acquittals.

According to statistics, out of 1,991 cases registered in 2025, only 483 were resolved, while 10,956 cases are still pending in various courts. Convictions were awarded in 135 cases in 2024, 140 in 2025, and 23 so far in 2026.

Enforcement agencies uncovered smuggling networks in 24 cases during this period, confiscating assets worth ₹53.77 lakh and freezing bank accounts worth ₹22.63 lakh. It has been recommended to cancel 489 driving licenses and suspend 700 vehicle registrations between January and March.

The Chief Secretary also emphasized the rehabilitation of drug addicts, directing the appointment of counselors in schools, colleges, and health centers, and the creation of a team of mental health experts in every district.

This dual strategy of strict action against drugs and rehabilitation in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to effectively control drug trafficking in the future.
