Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has made a major and controversial statement regarding the Iran-US conflict. She said that Iran is inspired by the spirit of sacrifice and self-denial and “Inshallah, it will win this war.”
Speaking to reporters at the Assembly complex, Mufti strongly condemned the US attack on Iran, calling it an affront to humanity. She said that the US and Israeli armies lack the will to fight, while the Iranians are standing firm and courageously on the ground.
She also targeted the current government of Jammu and Kashmir. She alleged that the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is using the lack of statehood as an excuse for all its failures, despite having the authority to take many important decisions.
Mufti said that if the government wishes, it can pass important laws such as regularization of daily wage workers, land rights, and the creation of new districts. He also said that public interest decisions can be taken even without restoring statehood.
Reminding the government of its promises, he said that the promises of providing one lakh jobs to the youth and rationalizing the reservation system have not been fulfilled yet. The government is trying to avoid these issues.
Referring to the poor economic condition of daily wage workers, Mufti said that these workers, who have been working for years, have not yet been regularized, which is a matter of serious concern. He demanded that their issues be resolved on humanitarian grounds.
The former Chief Minister also said that the role of the Assembly has weakened since 2019 and that the PDP, as a responsible opposition, is striving to re-strengthen democratic institutions.
