Jammu, April 1: In a significant development for the people of Ramban district, especially those in the Banihal-Gool Assembly constituency, a private member’s bill titled “Bill for Establishment of University Campus in Banihal” introduced by Banihal MLA Mr. Sajjad Shaheen was successfully passed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today.
Describing it as a historic milestone, Mr. Shaheen said that the passage of this bill marks the beginning of a new era in the educational and socio-economic landscape of Banihal. He added that for decades, students in the area have faced significant difficulties due to limited access to higher education facilities.
He said, “Nearly 90 percent of our students, after completing graduation, are unable to pursue higher studies due to poor socio-economic conditions, lack of resources, and a lack of nearby institutions. This university campus will open new avenues of learning, opportunity, and empowerment for our youth.”
Mr. Shaheen expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, for his support and vision in fulfilling this long-standing public demand. He also thanked the Honorable Higher Education Minister, Ms. Sakina Ittoo, for her support and positive thinking on the proposal.
He also acknowledged the support of all Honorable Cabinet Ministers and fellow members of the Legislative Assembly for unanimously supporting this important bill.
He further stated, “This is not just a legislative success, but a collective victory for the people of Ramban district. It demonstrates our shared commitment to uplifting underprivileged and backward areas through education and development.”
Mr. Shaheen congratulated the people of Ramban, especially those from the Banihal-Gool constituency, on this success and reiterated his commitment to implementing the project on the ground as soon as possible.
The establishment of a university campus in Banihal will significantly expand access to higher education, reduce dropout rates, and create new opportunities for youth, making the region an emerging educational hub.
