Jammu admin vows stringent check on Chinese Manjha (Gattu)

Urges citizens to report illegal sale and stocking

JAMMU, JULY 28: The district administration Jammu has urged citizens to report any individuals or establishments involved in the sale of banned Gattu or Chinese Manja (plastic/nylon kite-flying thread). The sale of nylon kite-flying thread has been strictly prohibited for safety and environmental concerns.

The administration is actively monitoring the situation and will take immediate enforcement action against violators.

The people cab report to Emergency Operations Centre on 0191-2571616, 0191-2571912 phone numbers; Police Control Room on  0191-2560401, 0191-2542000, 100, 112 numbers and on  Official Social Media Platforms.

In this regard, an order has already passed by the District Magistrate, Sachin Kumar Vaishya on June 25, 2025, imposing a complete ban on the sale and use of plastic/nylon manja under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The order was issued to prevent accidents and protect birds from the harmful effect of synthetic kite strings.
