The Lakhanpur-Jammu high-speed corridor project, a major boost to Jammu and Kashmir’s infrastructure, will be completed by June 2026. The completion of this approximately 95-kilometer-long corridor will significantly improve connectivity between Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, making travel faster and safer than ever before.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accelerated construction work day and night to ensure the project’s completion within the stipulated timeframe. This corridor is a crucial part of the Delhi-Katra Expressway, which will play a vital role in connecting Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Service roads and cut points have been constructed to connect both major and minor areas of the three districts through the corridor. Flyover access has been provided near major stations, allowing people in rural areas to directly access the corridor.
Vehicles will be able to travel at speeds of over 80 kilometers per hour on this high-speed corridor. This will enable the journey from Jammu to Pathankot to be completed in just one and a quarter hours. This is expected to provide a new impetus to trade, tourism, and industrial activities.
Under the project, 13 underpasses and flyovers are being constructed, while construction on two major bridges is also in the final stages.
These bridges, located near Kathua and AIIMS Vijaypur, were previously damaged by floods and are targeted to reopen this year. The construction of the Hiranagar bypass to Balsua section is also expected to be completed within this period.
To better connect villages, four-lane roads have been constructed beneath the corridor, which are now being connected to the main road. This will also provide significant relief to local traffic.
NHAI has also set a target to completely repair the existing black spots in the CIDCO area of Samba district by March 2026. The completion of the bridge and approach road will bring significant improvements to the traffic system.
According to NHAI Regional Officer R.S. Yadav, the completion of the Lakhanpur-Jammu Corridor will boost economic activity in Jammu and Kashmir and provide a new direction to the overall development of the region.
