Jammu-Katra Trial Run of Vande Bharat Express Successful, Paving the Way for Direct Service to KashmirJNM Journalist Hardeep Jamwal, JammuTaking a major step towards modern rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Railways on Tuesday successfully completed a trial run of the 20-coach special Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. The trial began at around 11 am from Jammu Railway Station and concluded safely at Katra Station at 12:45 pm.According to railway officials, all technical aspects, including the train’s speed, braking system, traction control, signal coordination, and station operations, were tested during the trial. The trial was a complete success, indicating that the Jammu-Katra section is ready for Vande Bharat Express operations. Following final approval from the Railway Board, the train is planned to run regularly from Jammu to Srinagar.Direct Modern Rail Connectivity from Jammu to the ValleyPreviously, the Vande Bharat Express service to Kashmir was planned to begin from Katra, but the new trial has progressed towards operating it directly from Jammu. This will connect Jammu city with the Kashmir Valley via a semi-high-speed rail service.Railway officials stated that preparations for platform upgrades, maintenance bases, and technical facilities have been completed at Jammu Railway Station. This 20-coach train will offer a larger passenger capacity, directly benefiting pilgrims, tourists, and local travelers.

Anti-skid braking technology

Tourism and Trade to Boost
The opening of a direct, fast, and comfortable rail link between Jammu and Srinagar is expected to provide a major boost to the tourism industry. Travel between the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, the Kashmir Valley, and Jammu city will become more convenient, and it will also boost business activities and the local economy.
Railway sources say that the inauguration date will be announced upon final approval. After the successful trial, enthusiasm is being seen among the passengers and it is being considered a historic achievement for Jammu and Kashmir.

Subsequently, on August 26, a landslide on the Vaishno Devi route, triggered by incessant rain, killed 32 people and injured 20 others.

Jammu, Feb 25 : The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday carried out a raid at the residence of Vijay Chaudhary, brother of the Deputy Chief Minister, in connection with a disproportionate assets case, sources said.Sourcessaid that the raid commenced early in the morning around 6:00 am and was continuing at the time of filing this report. The residence is located in Santokh Vihar, Talo Kalo Chak area of Jammu.Vijay Chaudhary is an Inspector in the J&K Police. Sources said he was transferred to Ladakh last year in September and is presently under suspension.Official confirmation regarding the details of the case was awaited till the filing of this report, while searches were still underway. More details are expected.
