Jammu:
An accused identified as Parveen Kumar, son of Shugan Chand and a resident of Panipat, Haryana, who had been arrested in FIR No. 67/2026 under sections 318(4), 127(3)/308(2) of the BNS at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, died after complaining of severe stomach pain.
The accused, who was in police remand, complained of acute abdominal pain today and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.
According to police, the accused had been arrested from Kolkata along with four others in connection with the said case. After proper medical examination and transit remand, the individuals were shifted to Police Station Gandhi Nagar on 25.03.2026 and were in police custody till 30.03.2026.
Police stated that regular medical check-ups of the accused were conducted during custody and all necessary precautions were taken. Accordingly, on 29.03.2026, the accused underwent another medical examination at the Jammu Police Hospital.
However, later he complained of severe stomach pain and was immediately taken to Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, where doctors declared him brought dead.
A postmortem is being conducted by a board of doctors at GMC Jammu, and the family of the deceased has been informed. The postmortem will be carried out in the presence of family members and an Executive Magistrate. All CCTV footage and other evidence are being preserved.
Meanwhile, police have initiated an investigation, and the District Magistrate Jammu has been requested to order a magisterial inquiry into the matter.
