Ladakh, a city with its stunning blend of towering snow-capped mountains and harsh winters, is now poised to become not just a tourist destination but also India’s largest winter sports hub. This is a historic initiative, unlike any other.
Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta stated that state-of-the-art facilities such as chair lifts, ski drag lifts, and a winter sports academy will be built in Ladakh to attract sports enthusiasts from both India and abroad. Chilling plants will be installed in Leh and Kargil stadiums for year-round ice hockey training.
The Union Territory administration will organize the Khelo India Winter Games every year to prepare local athletes for major events like the Winter Olympics. This initiative will not only promote sports but will also open new avenues for tourism and employment.
This mega-project will be completed in two phases and will make Ladakh a top winter sports hub, competing with places like Gulmarg.
History will bear witness – Ladakh is now not only going to be the tourist hub of the Himalayas, but also the Maha Kumbh of sports.
