Bani — A major political controversy has erupted over a simple water tank in the Bani area. Former soldier and social worker Maruf Malik has leveled serious allegations against former MLA Jeevan Lal, alleging that people are being misled through social media.
Maruf Malik, who served in the Indian Army for nearly 20 years and has received numerous honors, including the President’s Award and the GOC Commendation Card, claimed that the water tank was installed at the request of local residents. He also clarified that he himself had written to the authorities requesting that the tank not be placed near his house and be relocated elsewhere.
According to Malik, despite this, former MLA Jeevan Lal raised the issue on social media, linking his and his family’s name to it. He also provided false information regarding the tank’s cost. While the actual amount was stated to be 0.7 lakh (approximately 70,000 rupees), it was presented as 7 lakh rupees.
Maruf Malik said that development work worth crores of rupees has been carried out in the Bani area, including several water tanks. However, creating controversy over just one tank raises many questions. He also alleged that his name was unnecessarily involved in the entire matter and an attempt was made to give it a social and political color.
Referring to his three generations of military service, he said that his family has continuously contributed to the country and questioning their patriotism is wrong.
The matter has now become a topic of discussion among local residents. Political circles are also witnessing varying reactions. However, there has been no official response from former MLA Jeevan Lal to these allegations.
