Rajasthan officer caught taking Rs 1,000 bribe in housing scheme, arrested

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a woman Village Development Officer red-handed in Ajmer while she was accepting a bribe under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

According to a complaint filed with the ACB, Ajmer, Village Development Officer Sonakshi Yadav had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 2,500 from the complainant in exchange for approving funds under the housing scheme.

When the complainant paid Rs 1,000, Yadav allegedly insisted on receiving the remaining Rs 1,500 and told the complainant that the funds would not be sanctioned until the full payment was made.

Acting under the direction of Director General of Police Smita Srivastava, with the supervision of Deputy Inspector General Anil Kayal and under the leadership of Inspector Kanchan Bhati, the ACB Ajmer team laid a trap. The team arrested Yadav red-handed while she was accepting Rs 1,000 from the complainant.

Officials said that questioning of the accused officer is underway, and the ACB has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The ACB said that this operation marks another significant success in its ongoing fight against corruption in Ajmer, raising hopes that corrupt officials will be held accountable and ordinary citizens will receive justice.
