The first phase of the ongoing digital census process in Jammu and Kashmir is set to conclude at 12:00 AM on Sunday night. Concurrently, the ‘Self-Enumeration’ portal will be deactivated. The second phase of the census will commence on Monday, June 1, during which appointed enumerators and census officials will conduct door-to-door visits to collect information from residents and verify data that has already been recorded.

Appealing to the public, Chief Census Officer Amit Sharma urged citizens who have not yet registered their details on the Self-Enumeration portal to complete the process within the stipulated deadline. He explained that the objective of the self-enumeration initiative is to provide citizens with the opportunity to personally record details regarding their families, thereby ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of the data.

He further stated that during the second phase, beginning June 1, enumerators will conduct door-to-door surveys over the subsequent 30 days. During this period, data submitted through the self-enumeration portal will be verified, and the data will be finalized and locked. For households that did not utilize the online self-enumeration option, officials will visit their premises directly to record their information on the spot.

The administration has clarified that all information collected during the census will be kept strictly confidential. This data will be utilized exclusively for the formulation of government policies, the development of infrastructure projects, social welfare programs, and the efficient allocation of resources.

Officials have appealed to the general public to provide accurate and complete information to the census teams and to actively cooperate in this campaign of national significance. The administration asserts that the data derived from the census will serve as the foundation for the future development of education, healthcare, roads, electricity, water supply, and other basic amenities, as well as for the equitable distribution of resources.

According to the Census Department, the participation of every citizen is paramount to the success of this campaign. Therefore, residents are urged to cooperate with the survey teams and to play their part in the holistic development of Jammu and Kashmir by providing accurate information.
