The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a new integrated terminal building at Srinagar Airport. This ambitious project will cost ₹1,667 crore.Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav stated that the new terminal building will be developed over an area of ​​approximately 71,500 square meters. It will be designed to handle approximately 2,900 passengers simultaneously during peak hours. Its annual passenger capacity has been set at approximately 10 million, ensuring it can easily handle the growing passenger numbers in the coming years.Passengers will enjoy modern amenitiesThe new terminal building will feature spacious and comfortable waiting rooms, streamlined security checkpoints, modern baggage handling systems, and well-organized separate arrival and departure areas. The building’s design will also incorporate glimpses of Kashmiri culture and traditional architecture, allowing travelers from outside to experience Kashmir’s identity.Boosting Tourism and EmploymentThe government believes that this project will further strengthen air connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir. More flights with improved facilities will be possible, making access to Kashmir easier from various parts of the country. This will directly benefit the tourism industry. New opportunities will be created for those involved in hotels, transportation, handicrafts, and local businesses. Local employment is also expected to increase during and after construction.A Significant Step Toward DevelopmentExperts say that Kashmir has seen a steady increase in tourist arrivals over the past few years. Consequently, expanding airport infrastructure has become the need of the hour. The new integrated terminal building will not only provide a better passenger experience but will also further connect Jammu and Kashmir to the national and international air networks.This project is considered a significant step towards strengthening Kashmir’s infrastructure and accelerating the region’s overall development.
