Taking a major and historic step in the field of higher education in Jammu and Kashmir, the Assembly has passed the Private University Bill. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described it as a milestone for the bright future of the state’s youth and said that this decision will bring about profound changes in the education sector in the future.
The Chief Minister congratulated Education Minister Sakina Intoo and all concerned parties for this achievement. He said that this bill will open new doors to quality higher education in Jammu and Kashmir and will significantly reduce the need for students to travel to other states or abroad for studies.
He clarified that after the implementation of this bill, prestigious and renowned educational institutions of the country will be able to establish their campuses in Jammu and Kashmir. This will not only improve the quality of education but will also provide modern and competitive education to students locally.

The Chief Minister further stated that the government’s objective is not merely to open institutions but to develop a strong educational infrastructure. This move will promote research, innovation, and technical education in the state, providing new opportunities for youth and enabling them to compete at the national and international levels.
He also stated that this decision will prove decisive in establishing Jammu and Kashmir as an emerging educational hub. In the coming years, the state can establish its own identity in the field of education and academic excellence.
Earlier, on the last day of the budget session, Education Minister Sakina Itoo introduced this bill for consideration in the House. After discussion, the Speaker of the Assembly passed it by voice vote, completing this important legislative process.
Experts believe that the implementation of this bill will not only increase investment in the education sector but will also create new employment opportunities. The establishment of private universities will also open doors for employment for teachers, researchers, and other academic staff.
Overall, this bill marks a new beginning in the education sector of Jammu and Kashmir, providing the youth of the state with better education, research, and career opportunities closer to home.
