The Grandest Gathering of Faith Takes Shape at the Border: Baba Chamliyal Fair to be Held on June 25

JNM Correspondent Hardeep Jamwal, Jammu

Situated right on the ‘Zero Line’ of the India-Pakistan International Border, the historic Baba Chamliyal Shrine is once again set to become a focal point of faith for millions of devotees. Preparations have intensified for the world-renowned annual Baba Chamliyal Fair, scheduled to be held on June 25. Held in the Channi Fatwal area adjacent to the border, this fair is not merely a religious event; it is regarded as a shining example of brotherhood, trust, and humanity that transcends national boundaries.

The District Administration, the BSF (Border Security Force), the Shrine Management Committee, and local volunteers are working in unison to ensure the fair is both grand and secure. While reviewing the preparations for the fair, Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, the MLA for Ramgarh, directed the concerned departments to complete all assigned tasks within the stipulated timeframe. He emphasized that priority must be given to providing essential amenities—such as roads, water supply, resting facilities, healthcare services, and security—for the devotees arriving from across the country.

A unique feature of the Baba Chamliyal Shrine is that the fair held here has, for decades, stood as a symbol of peace and harmony along the border. Devotees pay their obeisance at Baba’s shrine, offering prayers for happiness, peace, and brotherhood. While thousands of people visit the site every year, expectations are high that this year will witness a record-breaking turnout.

Meanwhile, as part of the fair preparations, young volunteers have already commenced the task of gathering firewood for the ‘Langar’ (community kitchen) service. Notably, many personnel currently serving in the Army and security forces are taking leave from duty and returning to their villages specifically to participate in this selfless service. Local youths affirm that serving Baba Chamliyal is a matter of great privilege and deep reverence for them.

This historic fair, held right at the border, is once again poised to convey the profound message that faith knows no boundaries.
