Traffic Police Crack Down on Motorists with More Than 5 Pending Challans

Hardeep Jamwal, JNM Journalist, Jammu

The Jammu Traffic Police have launched a strict drive against motorists who repeatedly violate traffic rules. Over the past week, the police have impounded 280 vehicles whose Registration Certificates (RCs) had already been cancelled but were still being driven on the roads.

According to reports, these vehicles had multiple pending e-challans for various traffic violations, such as speeding, jumping red lights, driving against the flow of traffic, riding without helmets or seatbelts, and using mobile phones while driving. The Transport Department had cancelled the RCs of these vehicles because they had five or more pending challans that remained unpaid within the stipulated timeframe.

The traffic police are conducting special inspection drives at various intersections, checkpoints, and major roads across the city. Vehicles found to have cancelled RCs during these checks are being impounded on the spot.

Traffic Inspector Sunil Singh stated that the objective of the drive is not to harass the public but to enforce traffic discipline on the roads. He noted that drivers who repeatedly violate rules endanger not only their own lives but also the lives of others; therefore, strict action against them is necessary.

He appealed to vehicle owners to pay their pending challans on time and keep all vehicle-related documents up to date. Meanwhile, the Office of the Traffic Commissioner has recently blacklisted approximately 3,000 vehicles found to have more than five pending challans. Access to RC-related and other online services for these vehicles has also been suspended.

The department has clarified that such special drives will continue in the future to ensure road safety and traffic discipline.
