Unrest in PoK, heightened vigilance at LoC; Army Chief reviews security preparedness in Udhampur

JNM Journalist Hardeep Jamwal, Jammu

Amidst rising public outcry and destabilizing conditions in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK), the Indian Army has begun further strengthening its security preparedness. As part of this effort, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur to review border security, military readiness, and emerging challenges.
According to sources, recent protests against the Pakistani administration and incidents of violence in PoK have created a tense situation in the region. Given these circumstances, security agencies remain alert to the possibility that Pakistan might attempt to orchestrate some form of activity along the Line of Control (LoC) to divert attention from its internal pressures.
During the Army Chief’s visit, senior officers of the Northern Command briefed him in detail on the prevailing security situation in the Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh regions, border management, counter-terrorism operations, and modern combat capabilities. Discussions also covered technology-driven military infrastructure, network-centric warfare systems, and the utilization of modern weaponry.
This visit comes at a time when extensive security arrangements are being put in place across Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra. A series of review meetings is underway to ensure seamless coordination among the Army, paramilitary forces, and other security agencies.
Military officials also apprised the Army Chief of the preparedness and capabilities of the new Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs). These modern military formations are capable of rapid deployment to any front and executing effective operations against the enemy. Designed for operations across mountainous, plain, and desert terrains, these groups are equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry and advanced technologies.
During the visit, General Dwivedi urged officers and soldiers to adopt new technologies in line with the evolving security landscape, foster innovation, and maintain a high level of combat readiness. He also felicitated several officers and soldiers for their outstanding performance. Military sources state that this visit by the Army Chief is part of a comprehensive strategy to further strengthen the Indian Army’s operational capabilities and ensure preparedness for future security challenges. Senior Army commanders have previously visited sensitive areas in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to review the security situation.
The situation across the border is being constantly monitored, and the Indian Army remains fully alert and prepared to tackle any potential challenge.
