100 Days TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched in Baramulla

Public Representatives, District Admin and Healthcare Experts unite in commitment to a TB-Free B’la


BARAMULLA: In a major stride towards the elimination of tuberculosis (TB), the ‘100 Days TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ was launched today in Baramulla district in alignment with India’s commitment to achieving a TB-free status by 2025.


Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Baramulla, Javed Ahmad Beigh, was the chief guest at the launch event, which was attended by the MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah; MLA Uri, Sajad Shafi; Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa; ADC Baramulla, Zahoor Ahmad Raina; Principal GMC; representatives from State and District Tuberculosis Control Society; other officers; healthcare professionals; ASHA workers; and community representatives.
Speaking during the event, Javed Ahmad Beigh underscored that the ‘100 Days TB Mukt Bharat’ Abhiyan in Baramulla serves as a call for collective action and stressed the need for the involvement of healthcare professionals, community leaders, and the public to make Baramulla a frontrunner in the fight against TB.


MLA Uri, in his address, emphasised the urgency of united efforts in combating TB and facilitating a proper education to eradicate TB, which still remains a significant healthcare challenge.


Speaking at the event, MLA Gulmarg, lauded the relentless efforts of healthcare workers in combating tuberculosis, and highlighted the pivotal role played by the Government Medical College (GMC) in diagnosing, treating and managing TB cases in the region. In his address, DC Baramulla highlighted the critical role of initiatives like the ‘100 Days TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ in helping to significantly reduce TB cases and said that early screening, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment are key to overcoming the disease.


During the event, all representatives, officers, and officials took a solemn pledge to collaborate with elected leaders, government agencies, and all stakeholders in their shared commitment to eliminating tuberculosis.


Meanwhile, TB survivors and healthcare professionals were honoured for their remarkable contributions towards the fight against tuberculosis in the district.


As part of the event, a book was launched emphasizing the significance of early detection in combating TB, role of a healthy and nutritious diet in both prevention and recovery, the need for special care for high-risk groups, and the importance of ensuring the completion of treatment for effective disease management.


During the launch event, a utility vehicle was flagged off, with mobile diagnostic units on board equipped with advanced tools that will reach remote villages to ensure that every individual has access to free and accurate TB testing.
