MLA Proposes ₹3.5 Crore Plan for Development of Historic Temples in Bani

Proposal sent to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah; initiative aims to boost religious tourism and local economy

REPORTED BY SHRIYA GUPTA

Dr. Rameshwar Singh, MLA from Bani constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, has put forward a comprehensive proposal seeking the beautification and development of several historical temples in the region. The proposal was formally submitted to the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, highlighting the urgent need to preserve and upgrade these culturally significant religious sites.According to the proposal, seven key temples across the Bani constituency have been identified for development, with an estimated allocation of ₹50 lakh for each site, bringing the total projected cost to ₹3.5 crore. The temples included in the plan are Chori Shiv Mandir (Kanthal), Doulha Mata Mandir, Joudha Mata Mandir (Banjal), Jwala Mata Mandir (Dhaggar), Ghuttu Naag Mandir (Dandi Ghuttu), Kaladhar Naag Mandir (Sadrota, Lohai-Malhar), and Ghad Mata Mandir (Bhandar). In his communication, the MLA emphasized that these temples are deeply rooted in the region’s religious heritage and historical identity, attracting a steady flow of devotees from nearby areas as well as other parts of the Union Territory. Despite their importance, many of these sites currently lack adequate infrastructure such as proper access roads, sanitation facilities, resting areas, and organized premises for pilgrims. He noted that the proposed development would not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of these temples but also ensure better management of pilgrim footfall, especially during peak festive seasons when the number of visitors increases significantly. The plan is expected to include improvements in basic infrastructure, cleanliness, landscaping, and possibly the creation of visitor-friendly amenities.Furthermore, Dr. Rameshwar Singh pointed out that such an initiative would play a crucial role in boosting religious tourism in the Bani region, which has long remained an underexplored destination despite its rich cultural assets. Increased tourist inflow, he added, could generate new livelihood opportunities for local residents, benefiting small businesses, shopkeepers, and service providers. The proposal also underlines the importance of government support in preserving heritage structures, stating that timely intervention would strengthen public confidence and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to regional development. The MLA has urged the Chief Minister to grant approval for the project within the current financial year, enabling early commencement and execution of the work. Conclusion:The proposed temple development plan reflects a broader vision of combining heritage conservation with economic growth. If approved, the initiative could transform Bani into a prominent religious tourism hub while simultaneously improving infrastructure and quality of life for local communities. All eyes are now on the government’s response to this proposal, which carries both cultural and developmental significance for the region.
