In a major operation conducted in a district of South Kashmir, security forces have arrested an ‘overground worker’ linked to a terrorist organization. Two hand grenades, posters of the terrorist group, and other incriminating material were recovered from the arrested youth. Security agencies view this operation as a significant success against the active terrorist network operating in the area.
According to police officials, a joint team comprising the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police established a special checkpoint (Naka) on Thursday on the outskirts of Mohammadpora village in Kulgam. Security forces had received prior intelligence that an overground worker associated with a terrorist organization might be passing through the area carrying weapons and other supplies.
During the checkpoint inspection, security personnel observed a youth passing by whose movements appeared suspicious. The troops signaled him to stop, but the youth attempted to flee. Acting with promptness, the security forces apprehended him on the spot.
During a subsequent search, two hand grenades, posters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and other suspicious material were recovered from his possession. During interrogation, he was identified as Adil Hussain, son of Mohammad Sadiq Lone, a resident of Mohammadpora.
During preliminary questioning, the accused confirmed his links with the terrorist organization. He revealed that the recovered hand grenades and other material were meant to be delivered to a terrorist active within the district. Furthermore, he had received instructions from the organization to circulate the posters in order to spread fear and panic among the public.
The police have registered a case against the accused and have initiated further investigations. According to sources, based on leads obtained from Adil, raids were also conducted at several potential hideouts across Kulgam and its adjoining areas. However, as of late night, the arrest of any other terrorist could not be confirmed.
Security agencies have stated that operations against active terrorist networks and their accomplices in the Valley will continue unabated. According to officials, Overground Workers play a crucial role in providing ground-level support to terrorist activities; therefore, dismantling such networks is a priority for security forces.
