The fragrance of lavender will permeate Bani, offering new opportunities for tourism and farmers.

Bani, Kathua: The beautiful hilly region of Bani, Jammu and Kashmir, will soon be covered in a purple blanket of lavender. A modern lavender farm is being developed on approximately 40 kanals of land in the area, which will not only increase farmers’ income but also provide a new dimension to tourism.
Lavender is a sought-after crop worldwide due to its fragrance and medicinal properties. Its flowers and oil are used in perfumes, cosmetics, aromatherapy, and many other products. This is why it is being considered a profitable cash crop for farmers.
Experts believe that Bani’s climate and geographical conditions are favorable for lavender production. After the project is completed, quality plants will be provided to local farmers, which will promote large-scale lavender cultivation in the region.
Bani MLA Dr. Rameshwar Singh said that the aim of this initiative is to encourage farmers to adopt higher-income crops in addition to traditional farming. He expressed hope that the project will create new employment opportunities for youth and strengthen the region’s economic situation.

The Agriculture Department is also playing an active role in accelerating the project. The department has provided additional financial support to ensure timely completion of the development work.

Once the lavender farm is complete, the purple flowers and their enchanting fragrance will attract tourists, potentially positioning the area as a new tourist destination.
